EaglePicher Technologies is a premier manufacturer of cell, battery, and power system solutions serving the defense, space, aircraft, medical, and commercial markets. Since 1843, EaglePicher has applied its material science research and engineering capabilities toward various applications that introduced the first special-purpose military battery in 1944, and has served projects ranging from various defense munitions and portable power solutions, manned/unmanned space missions (Apollo 13, Hubble Space Telescope, Mars Rover), aircraft engine start and auxiliary power (B2, Global Hawk, Embraer), grid-energy storage (Shedd Aquarium), and numerous medical devices (neuro-stimulators, defibrillators). EaglePicher looks forward to the MOCAP partnership as a means to better enable its employees through a tailored educational certification program, and to partner with the member Universities to extend their research initiatives with new battery materials and processes toward production improvements in electrochemistry performance and/or manufacturability.

University of Missouri – Columbia, Missouri

The University of Missouri was founded in 1839 in Columbia, Mo., as the first public university west of the Mississippi River and the first state university in Thomas Jefferson’s Louisiana Purchase territory. MU provides all the benefits of two universities in one — it’s a major land-grant institution and Missouri’s largest public research university.

Considered one of the nation’s top-tier institutions, Mizzou has a reputation of excellence in teaching and research, and is the flagship campus of the four-campus University of Missouri System. It is one of only 34 public universities, and the only public institution in Missouri, to be selected for membership in the Association of American Universities. Missouri State University – Springfield, Missouri

Missouri State University is a comprehensive institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs, including the professional doctorate. Missouri State University-Mountain Grove serves Missouri’s fruit industry through operation of the State Fruit Experiment Station. The Extended Campus provides anytime, anyplace learning opportunities through telecourses, Internet-based instruction and through its interactive video network (BearNet).

The Missouri State community includes 22,866 students in the Missouri State system making it the second largest university in the state.

Externally-funded projects promote multidisciplinary collaborations within the University, joint ventures with business and industry, partnerships with K-12 schools, collaborations with other community organizations, and alliances with other higher education institutions. Outside funding, in the form of grants and contracts, provides millions of dollars to support University-based projects each year. These projects strengthen collaborative efforts between the University, community and statewide organizations.

Missouri Southern State University – Joplin, Missouri

Missouri Southern State University is a four year liberal arts public institution serving nearly 6,000 students in over 200 academic programs offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. Internationally-focused semesters and enriching cultural events in theater, art, music and film create an engaging learning environment for students and citizens of the region.
The Chemical & Physical Sciences Department at Missouri Southern is an active partner in MOCAP governance. The Chemical & Physical Sciences Department offers degrees in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Physics, and Pre-Engineering. The MOCAP lab is located on our campus and Missouri Southern offers Introduction to Electrochemistry online for students interested in an Advanced Power certificate. The MOCAP lab offers students hands on experience with the latest tools in Electrochemistry. Chemistry, Physics, and Pre-Engineering students can serve as research assistants or as interns for projects that are using the MOCAP lab.

NorthStar Batteries – Joplin, Missouri

NorthStar Batteries (NSB) is a Missouri-based manufacturer of thin-plate absorbed glass mat lead acid batteries (AGMs). The principal market for NSB has historically been the global telecommunications cellular sector where NSB product can be found in radio base stations in almost every country worldwide. Recently NSB has diversified its target market to include Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and the fast growing transportation sector where advanced lead acid products are now providing stop-start automotive capability. In addition, NSB is providing electrochemical battery storage for several grid energy storage systems (ESS) including a 2.5MWh system for City Utilities in Springfield, Missouri. NSB views the MOCAP partnership as a key opportunity for local industry and academia to engage in collaborative fundamental R&D into both the understanding and application of electrochemical storage. NSB is keen to help in the training and development of local university students with the long-term view of being able to offer full-time employment.

Joseph Newman Innovation Center – Joplin, Missouri

Located in Joplin, Missouri, the Joseph Newman Innovation Center is a Missouri Certified Business Incubator with a mission to create a positive environment for developing, supporting and promoting entrepreneurs; with an emphasis on those pursuing innovative technology.

Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce – Joplin, Missouri

Missouri Technology Corporation – Jefferson  City, Missouri

The Missouri Technology Corporation is a public-private partnership created by the Missouri General Assembly to promote entrepreneurship and foster the growth of new and emerging high-tech companies.  MTC focuses on 21st Century bioscience industries that build on Missouri’s rich history in agriculture.

It is governed by a board of directors appointed by Missouri’s Governor, Speaker of the House, and President Pro Tem of the Senate.  The President of the University of Missouri System and the Director of the Department of Economic Development are ex officio members of the board.
